Cigarette Prices in the Czech Republic (2026)

⚠️ Customs Rules and Transport Limits

From another EU country (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia), up to 800 cigarettes are treated as being for personal use. From outside the EU, the allowance is 200 cigarettes, from the age of 17.

🌍 Overview

The Czech Republic is still cheaper than Germany for cigarettes, but by less than it used to be. On 1 July 2026, a pack of Marlboro costs CZK 184 there, about €7.56 at the European Central Bank rate of 30 October 2026, against €9.40 in Germany, and now more than in Austria (€7.00). Every price is printed on the pack's tax stamp and published by the customs administration: selling above or below it is prohibited. In koruna, Marlboro has more than doubled since 2010 (CZK 82), in step with excise increases that are scheduled until 2027. All prices on this page come from official lists, with no estimates.

📋 Tobacco Regulation & Policy

💰 Tax regime

Cigarettes carry a mixed excise: in 2026, CZK 2.39 per cigarette plus 30% of the retail price, with a minimum of CZK 4.66 per cigarette, or CZK 93.20 per pack of 20 (Excise Duties Act No. 353/2003, section 104), plus 21% VAT. On a pack of Marlboro at CZK 184, taxes make up about 73% of the price, by our calculation. Smoking tobacco pays CZK 3,650 per kilo.

📈 Price policy

The manufacturer proposes the price of each pack, which the customs administration publishes before it takes effect; that price is printed on the tax stamp, and the law prohibits selling above or below it, discounts included (Act No. 353/2003, sections 110 and 112). Until 2024 these prices appeared in the Ministry of Finance price bulletin, and since 2025 in the customs online register. Rises mostly follow the excise, scheduled by the 2023 budget consolidation act: about +5% a year until 2027.
