📊 Open data: tobacco prices 2000-2026
We publish the dataset behind this site: 8,019 prices for packs of 20 cigarettes, covering 17 countries and around twenty brands, from 2000 to 2026. It is free to reuse, including commercially, provided you credit the source.
Read the confidence levels first
- •Every price carries a level, and it is the most important column in the file. H means an official primary source. M means estimated from a confirmed anchor point. F means extrapolated, usually the country's Marlboro series multiplied by a stable brand ratio.
- •78% of the series are F. These are estimates, not surveys. For any consequential use, a publication or a decision, check the value against a primary source.
- •We would rather publish this limitation than hide it: a dataset whose weaknesses are known is more useful than one that claims to have none.
What the files contain
One row per country, brand and year combination. Columns give the country code, the country name in English, the local currency, the brand, the year, the price of a pack of 20, the confidence level and the method used. Prices are in local currency, never converted.
Licence and attribution
The data is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. You may copy, transform and redistribute it, including commercially, as long as you credit cigprices.com with a link.
Method
Marlboro serves as the reference brand in each country. Marlboro series are built from confirmed anchor points then linearly interpolated. Other brands are estimated by applying a price ratio that stays stable over time. Main sources are customs data, official publications and price surveys.
